Bwindi Impenetrable National Park lies in south-western Uganda, on the edge of the Rift Valley. Its mist-covered hills are covered by one of the oldest and most biologically diverse rainforests, dating back over 25,000 years and containing almost 400 plant species. Most famously, this "impenetrable forest" also protects around 460 mountain gorillas, including several habituated families. This biologically diverse region is also home to 120 other mammal species, including several primate species such as baboons and chimpanzees, as well as elephants and antelopes. The forest is home to some 350 bird species, including 23 species endemic to the Albertine Rift.
