12 Day Classic Namibia Safari

This tour begins with a visit to Okonjima, home to the Africat Foundation, a wildlife sanctuary involved in the research and rehabilitation of Africa's big cats. It continues with a visit to northern Namibia's famous tourist attraction, Etosha National Park. Next, you'll explore the picturesque landscapes of Damaraland in search of desert-adapted elephants, before continuing south through the historic town of Swakopmund. The last two nights will be spent in the world's oldest desert, the Namib.

Windhoek to Okonjima Nature Reserve

On arrival at Hosea Kutako International Airport, you'll be met by your guide and driven to Okonjima Nature Reserve. The journey takes around 4 hours, with lunch en route. After check-in, you'll have time to relax in your room before taking part in an afternoon leopard tracking activity. You'll enjoy a sunset with snacks before returning to the hostel for refreshments and dinner.

Okonjima Nature Reserve

This morning, you'll start early for a pleasant drive around the reserve with an experienced guide from the lodge. You'll then return to camp for brunch, followed by free time at the pool or in your room. In the afternoon, you'll visit the Carnivore Care Center, where a small number of carnivores are kept because they cannot be released back into the wild.

Day 3

Okonjima at Okaukuejo Resort - Etosha National Park

You'll depart for Etosha National Park, arriving in time for a short drive before check-in. That afternoon, your guide will take you on a safari outing before returning to camp before sunset.


Etosha means "a great white place" in Oshiwambo, referring to the Etosha pan, which covers an area of around 4,731 km². It was formed around 35,000 years ago when the gradient of the Kunene River shifted towards the Atlantic due to tectonic movements. The salt pan is 120 km long and 72 km wide, and is fed mainly by rainfall and an episodic influx of water from a natural drainage system called Cuvelai. The park covers an area of around 22,912 km², reduced from 100,000 km². It is home to some 340 bird species, 114 mammal species and 110 reptile species. Etosha was proclaimed a game reserve in 1907, and tourist activities began in the 1940s.


The next two days will be devoted to memorable early morning and afternoon safari outings in the park.

Day 6

Etosha National Park in Damaraland

Twyfelfontein Engravings

Today, you'll leave for Damaraland. Arrive at the lodge in time for lunch and some time to relax in your room or by the pool. Next, you'll visit the Twyfelfontein rock engravings, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.


Damaraland lies in the Kunene region of north-western Namibia, between the Brandberg and the small village of Sesfontein. Damaraland is characterized by its rocky, rugged landscapes of fascinating beauty. The region is home to the Damara language group, who were forcibly settled here by the South African government in 1960 as part of the Odendaal Plan. It is also home to desert-adapted wildlife such as elephants, black rhinos, lions and giraffes.

Explore Damaraland

Desert Adapted Elephants

Steps: Twyfelfontein

The morning will be spent tracking desert-adapted elephants in the Huab River before returning to the lodge for lunch. Desert-adapted elephants are mainly found in the Kaokoland and Damaraland regions of north-western Namibia. They are very well adapted to living in the particular conditions of the desert. During the dry season, they regularly travel up to 70 km between feeding grounds and scattered watering holes.


In the afternoon, your guide will take you on a tour of the Damara Living Museum to learn more about the Damara culture. You'll learn how the Damara made clothing, traditional medicines, beer and metal tools. You'll also be accompanied by an enthusiastic Damara guide.

Day 8

Damaraland to Swakopmund

Today you'll make your way to Namibia's west coast, passing the Brandberg, Namibia's highest mountain, before arriving in Swakopmund. The afternoon is free, with the possibility of participating in various optional activities such as scenic flights, sandboarding, quad biking and more. Dinner can be taken at one of the town's many seafood restaurants (own expense).

Swakopmund to Sandwich Harbour

After a hearty breakfast, your guide will take you to Walvis Bay for a mid-day activity at Sandwich Harbour. Sandwich Harbour is a marine sanctuary and Ramsar site, supporting over 50,000 birds in summer and 20,000 in winter. It's also where the Namib sands meet the Atlantic Ocean. Experienced guides with 4x4 vehicles will show you the impressive dune landscape and provide a unique off-road driving experience.


You'll return to Walvis Bay around 12:30 pm, then after your return to Swakopmund, you'll have free time to explore the town or take part in optional activities.

Swakopmund to Namib Desert

Bird Paradise near Walvis Bay

Steps: Swakopmund

A scenic drive takes you through the Namib Desert, passing through the picturesque Kuiseb and Gaub passes, as well as the Tropic of Capricorn, before arriving in Solitaire. You'll stop in Solitaire for lunch and a slice of apple pie before continuing on to Sossusvlei Lodge, where you'll spend the last two nights of your safari.


The Namib Sand Sea is the world's only coastal desert with vast dune fields influenced by fog. It covers an area of over 3 million hectares and a buffer zone of 899,500 hectares. The site comprises two dune systems, one ancient and semi-consolidated

Steps: Sesriem - Dunes De Sossusvlei

Today you'll enjoy a morning excursion to Sossusvlei. You'll discover the famous Dune 45, Dead Vlei and Sossusvlei before returning to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you'll explore Sesriem Canyon, then end the day with a sunset before returning to the lodge for refreshments and dinner.

Day 12

Windhoek

Dead Vlei

Your guide will take you to Windhoek international airport. On the way back, you'll take a scenic route through the Spreetshoogte Pass, where you'll catch a glimpse of wildlife.
