Practical information : Going out Myanmar - Burma
Timetable
The Burmese are not night owls. Here, it becomes difficult to dine out after 9 pm except in Chinatown, where Chinese barbecues are always going on all evening. The vast majority of bars close at 11pm or midnight
Budget & Tips
The nightlife in Chinatown is very good. At nightfall, the Chinese invade the streets with their cheap stalls. Especially on 19th Street. It's nice to walk around and watch the excitement, which is quickly contagious. Otherwise, the nightlife is limited to more or less well-attended karaoke bars and a few newer discos, which were previously banned throughout the country. These rather expensive nightclubs are not always the most popular places in the city. Also the first friendly LGBTQ+ bars appeared in Yangon. For example, on Tuesdays, the Othentic Brasserie offers Drag Queen shows, a first in Myanmar
Night transport
At night, it is preferable, even essential, to travel by taxi. With the Grab application, nothing could be simpler, there will always be some around. Otherwise, don't hesitate to provide a taxi number if you know you'll be coming home late
What's very local
Going out for a drink on Pandomar Street or Sanchaung Street, meeting the Burmese youth in nice bars and good little restaurants, that's very local. Another atmosphere, just as local: 19th Street and its Chinese barbecues
Smokers
You can smoke in most bars, don't hesitate to ask before if you are not comfortable with the idea!
