Mussiro takes you on a journey of discovery of the country and its riches, off the beaten track. The Special Reserve - a wilderness setting only 1.5 hours from Maputo and close to the wonderful island of Inhaca - is one of the flagship excursions offered by Fernando, the founder. Follow in the footsteps of elephants in the park's only open safari vehicle, or opt for a heavenly stay on pristine beaches; there are plenty of excursion options with Mussiro, right up to a visit to neighbouring Kruger or a jaunt to Eswatini.

Wild nature at the gates of the capital
We board the open safari vehicle, binoculars in the seat pocket, towards the Maputo Special Reserve. A real leap into the heart of the wilderness, only 1h30 from the capital. Through the bush, we cross impala, giraffes, monkeys, kudu...elephants! Breakfast is served on the banks of a first lake, facing the hippos. As the day progresses, the breathtaking views follow one another. We stop at Lake Mundu for lunch, a carril of camaroes cooked on the spot by our guides. Time stands still in the face of immensity.

Two days in paradise
Departing from Maputo, we embark on a two-hour boat trip to the deserted beaches of Inhaca, this island of unsuspected jewels.
After quickly dropping off your belongings in a charming lodge in Sta Maria, head to the beach with some snacks and soft drinks. On the program: lazing around, snorkeling, walking to Machangulo and visiting the village of Sta Maria, there are plenty of options to forget the weather. Keep your eyes wide open, as it is not uncommon to see flamingos on beaches. In the evenings, soak up the village atmosphere and probably festive if you are there on a weekend. Don't hesitate to hang around to find the local dancers of the Associação Juvenil.
After a delicious night at Nahyeeni Lodge, a sea view breakfast, and a bit of hanging around, we embark on one last adventure before heading to Maputo, the Portuguese Island tour by boat. An excursion of about two hours to perfect a stay on the theme of letting go.
