Traditional bars and concert halls close at midnight or 2am. Night bars and discos close at 4 or 6 am.

Note that the last two weeks of December are particularly busy with festivals and South Africans on vacation, especially students on spring break. Tofo and Ponto do Ouro are particularly crowded, you should book in advance during this period.
Night transport
In the evening, don't take any chances, opt for a cab, which you can order in Maputo on the smartphone app (with a local sim only) Viva Taxi, which allows you to know the route and price in advance as well as the identity of the driver. In the small seaside villages, chopelas are everywhere outside bars and nightclubs.
Age restrictions
The sale of alcohol is prohibited to minors under the age of 18 in Mozambique.
What's very local
Mozambique is festive. Here, shows and concerts are an integral part of the evening. In Maputo, from Wednesday to Sunday, live concerts follow one another.
Smokers
You will mostly see people smoking on the terraces of bars and restaurants which are in the open air anyway and covered under large makuti roofs or shelters.
