Timetable

South Africa is a creator of talent. Here, shopping is everywhere: in small towns, big cities, markets, shopping malls, trendy boutiques..., from big chains to local designers, from thrift shops to overflowing antique shops. The shops are generally open all day, from 9am to 7pm, except maybe some very small shops that would close for an hour at lunchtime

Budget & Tips

There really is something for every budget. The markets are often cheaper, but you have to know how to bargain. On the other hand, more and more so-called "local" objects and clothing are arriving directly from China. That said, you still keep the merchant alive... But small designers are often the best way to buy local

What's very local

There are some markets not to be missed: ask the locals or your hosts for information, depending on what you want to do and especially on the days you are there

Tourist traps

There are no real tourist traps in South Africa. On the other hand, in typical African craft markets like the Green Market Square in Cape Town, it is customary to bargain: you have to, it is part of the game.
