The hours vary greatly depending on the type of island you choose. Some bars on private islands run 24 hours a day, others close at 1am. Some hotels have a happy hour before dinner where you get a free drink for a purchase. On the local islands, there are few places where you can have a drink (even without alcohol) after 11pm.
Alcohol is a very controlled import product and is subject to high taxes. It is necessary to count at least 13 to 15 US$ for a cocktail.
There is no place to go out in the Maldives, except for the cafes on the local islands or the bars in the island hotels. The more festive islands have live bands and DJs on certain nights, but reservations are not required.
