Independence Day, October 9, sees the military marching, the crowd singing the national anthem and the president speaking..
Independence Day is celebrated every year on 9 October. It commemorates the proclamation of sovereignty of the Ugandan state in October 1962. Although festivities are held in all districts of the country, the main focus is on Kampala. The Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, an old disused runway, was paraded by the military and addressed by the President of the Republic. The singing of the national anthem ("Oh Uganda, Land of Beauty") and the hoisting of the colours are also on the programme.
