Budget & Tips

In South Korea, you'll find all types of accommodation, from youth hostels at 20,000 won, through motels at around 60,000 won, to classic mid-range to luxury hotels at between 70,000 and over 400,000 won. It's often possible to obtain attractive discounts by booking directly via the establishment's website.

To be booked

With the exception of motels, where you can arrive unannounced, it's advisable to book a month in advance for the rest of the establishments. This applies all year round, but particularly in spring and autumn.

What's very local

In almost all hotels, you can sleep Korean-style, on a futon on the floor. But if you want to take the Korean experience to the next level, you'll need to try a night in a Buddhist temple, where you can join in with the monks' activities.

For food lovers

Depending on the hotel, you'll find Western breakfasts with no big surprises, or Korean-style breakfasts (rice, fish, vegetables, soups...). Many hotels also have a café serving desserts on the premises or nearby.

Smokers

Smoking is not allowed in classic hotels. However, in some motels smoking is allowed (you'll easily find the ashtray on the coffee table to give you the green light).
