Practical information : Move & Laze around China
Budget & Tips
You can join a morning martial arts session in the public space. It's free and open to all. Running in the parks is also a commonplace activity.
What's very local
Early in the morning, Chinese people do tai ji quan or other martial arts exercises in parks, gardens or on the street, moving with slow rhythms to gradually awaken their bodies. These exercises help people to stay in shape, both physically and mentally. In Beijing, you may also come across elderly men walking their birds in a cage that they hang from a branch and talk or dream while listening to them sing.
To be booked
You usually have to go through your hotel to book your activities. However, it is now increasingly easy and common to book on the Internet.
Tourist traps
Beware of people who want to sell you a ticket for public transportation or shows. In China everything is centralized and official. Side-stepping is a scam!
