Budget & Tips
New Caledonia is a beautiful place to visit, but it costs money. The cost of living is 32% higher than in France, and the purchasing power is 28% lower. So be careful with your budget during your stay!
Age restrictions
As in France, alcohol consumption is tolerated from the age of 18.
What's very local
The bougna, the coconut crab, the shrimps, the snails of the Isle of Pines, the lobster, the salad of marinated deer...
We also appreciate their local beer, brewed on the spot: the Number One.
Smokers
Caledonians are known to be heavy smokers (with more than half of the population considered regular tobacco users). Smoking is prohibited in some public places in the territory, including cafes, restaurants and children's playgrounds. Smoking areas are available.
Tourist traps
On the whole, New Caledonia has few tourist attractions, so you can rest easy on that!
