In the Netherlands, if you're on your bike, you're on the move! The large city parks are also open-air gyms, and that's great fun. The many yoga and Pilates studios are open to day-trippers who book a trial class.

What's very local

Swimming in canals and lakes. Always check water quality before diving and make sure the site is safe. As a guide, never dive in historic areas or if no one is present. Big cities list the sites that are accessible when the weather is fine, and share them on social networks. Open-air pools also welcome you.

The Dutch are very fond of saunas, and you'll feel right at home if you don't have a problem with nudity. However, some resorts have thought of the more modest tourists and visitors and organize swimsuit days.

For real rental boats, you'll need to show your license or be accompanied by a skipper (often included in the rental price). Small pleasure boats and pedalos are easy to rent.

The great sports championships can be reserved. Don't dream of being able to watch Ajax PSV at the last minute. Less popular matches are more easily accessible.

Main events

Field field hockey is the national sport, and on Sundays you can easily watch matches of an excellent standard in various towns around the country.

The Zandvoort Formula 1 Grand Prix is a major event.
