The shops generally open from 9am to 12.30pm and resume after lunch at 4pm or even 5pm until an hour after sunset, just before the last prayer. But in Africa, nothing is certain and it is possible to find a shop closed in the middle of the day, especially at prayer times.
Unlike in Western countries with a Christian tradition, Sunday is not marked as a day of rest. Here, Friday is more important in the collective unconscious. However, the administrative bodies are aligned with the Western rhythm.
In the souks, you can find pottery, jewelry, ceramics and other handicrafts from Morocco. You will have a wide choice, and products from the surrounding area, generally of quality. Sometimes, the objects are even made on the spot. Be careful, however, with the scams.
The Kingdom of Morocco has prices relatively similar to European prices, but some good deals exist, especially in transportation: some large cabs will allow you to connect two cities three hours apart for less than ten euros!
It is always possible, whatever the time of the year, to haggle, to barter, to negotiate your purchases.
In the souks and shops, haggling is usually the order of the day. Moroccans are gifted in business, it's up to you to use your negotiating skills!
Favour the local handicrafts of the small outlying villages, like the underground potteries of Tamegroute, behind Zagora, for example.
They are numerous in Morocco, unfortunately... And one can easily sell you a brass object instead of a bronze one, corn beard instead of saffron or even adulterated argan oil. You will have to be vigilant about where to buy your products, even if it means paying a little more to be sure of the quality and origin.
Unfortunately, tourists are very popular, and there are scams in the clothing sales (a real institution there) and in the fake guides. Be careful!
