On Good Friday, the Passion of Christ is staged, with a travelling troupe creating tableaux vivants in the streets.
The most fervently followed period of the Catholic calendar in Italy. On Good Friday, tableaux vivants re-enact the Stations of the Cross, and street processions move forward with statues of Christ and the Virgin, notably in Umbria, Montefalco, Gualdo Tadino, Orvieto and Assisi. In Perugia, on Holy Saturday, another procession recounts the lamentation of the Virgin (Desolata Perugia). On Easter Sunday, parades lead up to a festive lunch. Easter Monday features picnics, free concerts, dances and games.
