Stores adapt their opening hours to the climate so that they can withstand the heat. Some shops just take a two-hour break in the afternoon to reopen in the evening. But in very touristy areas, it is no problem to find a shop open at almost any time.

Budget & Tips

Globally and unsurprisingly, everything is cheaper on the North side, as long as you buy authentic items (Turkish lukoums, carpets and kilims...).

Sales

As elsewhere, a first sales period begins in the first week of January. They take place on the same dates as elsewhere in Europe. Black Friday has also arrived on the island.

What's very local

Among the rare specialties of the island are icons, lace, wine, Turkish delight, carpets and kilims... Be careful however to check that they are local and not imported..

Tourist traps

Beware of forgeries, especially in Nicosia North. If you live in the South, don't go crazy either: the maximum value of purchases that can enter the Republic of Cyprus from the occupied territory is €200. If you are checked, you will lose your purchase...
