COMMEMORATION OF THE ABOLITION OF SLAVERY
Go there and contact
Cultural meetings, exhibitions, and shows celebrate the abolition of slavery in Martinique.
On May 22, 1848, under the impulse of men and women in search of their freedom, slavery was officially abolished in Martinique by the deputy Victor Schoelcher, author of the decree that put an end to slavery in the French colonies. Every year, this date gives place, from the evening before, to animations, cultural meetings, exhibitions and shows, in the four corners of the island. An opportunity to learn more about one of the most important and tragic pages in the history of Martinique.
