Illuminations, music and family reunions. In Martinique, the commemoration of the dead is a long-lasting tradition.

November1st and 2nd are important days in the Martinique calendar. People go to the cemetery to put flowers on the graves of the deceased, and to have a picnic near them. At nightfall, the cemeteries are illuminated. People gather and listen to music near the deceased. In the West Indies and unlike most French departments, the Day of the Dead is celebrated everywhere… This cult holds a considerable place in the life of the Martiniquais.
