Practical information : Going out Vietnam
Timetable
Vietnam is an authoritarian country and not known for its wild nights. But, with the influx of tourists, things are gradually changing. In Ho Chi Minh City mainly, in a few seaside resorts (Nha Trang, Dà Nang...) and even in Hanoi, evenings can now be extended, at least in some establishments. Officially, a curfew is still in force, and at 12:30 a.m., everyone is expected to return to the arms of Morpheus. In reality, Saigon has always been more lenient towards night owls. Nightlife flourishes here, with discotheques closing later and later... In Hanoi, the choice of establishments is much more limited, and partygoers are more discreet when they transgress the midnight permit.
Budget & Tips
Vietnamese nights are still very affordable. However, more luxurious establishments are springing up, with relatively high prices. Tourist clientele are not necessarily welcome.
Night transport
Cabs are always available at any time of night.
Age restrictions
The legal age for buying and consuming alcohol in Vietnam is 18. In practice, however, many establishments do not respect this law...
What's very local
In the rare discotheques, the security service is omnipresent and rather aggressive. The atmosphere is not always friendly, and violent incidents are not uncommon.
Smokers
Smoking bans are generally not respected.
