If you're traveling to Scotland in winter, or for New Year's Eve, you can take advantage of the winter sales, which start on Boxing Day, December 26. They offer real bargains, with markdowns of up to 75% off. As in France, sales take place twice a year, in winter and summer. Sales promotions and events also punctuate the year.
What's very local
Thrift shops and vintage boutiques are very common in Scotland, as they are throughout the UK. Every town, every district has its charity shop.
