Timetable
While supermarkets and international brand stores remain open continuously from 9am to 8pm, small shops take a break from 12:30-1pm to 3:30-4pm. They are generally open from Monday to Saturday, but some shops in big cities are also open on Sundays, even if this day is generally a holiday.
Budget & Tips
We recommend that you fill up on good gourmet products: wine, San Daniele ham, alpine cheeses, honey, Tergeste DOP extra virgin olive oil... Buying directly from the producer allows you to have better prices than if you go to a shop or buy online, since you avoid the middleman. In addition, you will have the opportunity to taste the products you buy. Of course, the problem will be to find the necessary space in your luggage if you are not in a car. Ask the producer to deliver the package directly to your home.
Sales
In Italy, the winter sales start at the beginning of January, at the end of the winter vacations, on the Monday following or the last weekend of the vacations. The sales then last until the end of February or the beginning of March. In summer, the sales start at the beginning of July and end in mid-August. In recent years, Italy has adopted Black Friday, a commercial event that originated in the United States and takes place on the Friday following Thanksgiving in November. Many businesses offer competitive prices that are not limited to Friday but often extend over several days.
Tourist traps
As the destination is less touristy than Venice or Florence, souvenir stores are not numerous. However, T-shirts with the effigy of the region, snow globes and magnets made in China are well present on the shelves of the stores. If it is tempting to bring back a gadget from your vacation, choose local and authentic products to encourage the region's economy.
