Throughout Andalusia, the pasos, decorated altars laden with flowers, will be on display during this major religious celebration.

This is the most important religious festival in Andalusia. It recounts the passion and death of Christ. In some regions, drums and tamborradas are played, and in all, pasos, heavy portable altars with representations of Christ and the Virgin Mary, are decorated and paraded through the streets. In Seville, the statues of the Virgin of La Macarena, the most venerated, the Esperanza de Triana, the Christ of the Cachorro and Our Father Jesus del Gran Poder, created in the 17th century, are the main figures of these processions.

It is necessary to book your hotel several months before departure. However you are not guaranteed to see leaving the brotherhoods with their altar (El silencio, Gran Poder, Macarena, Los Gitanos). We were in Seville for Madregua (Madrugada) which is held on Thursday night saint but unfortunately because of the rain during 3 days (from April 21st to April 23rd, 2011) was cancelled.
For information Alcazar is closed Good Friday.
