AÎTRE SAINT-SATURNIN
A cemetery with a covered gallery in front of the Saint-Saturnin church, housing the rich lapidary collections of Blois.
This astonishing monument which seems to be a cloister is in reality a cemetery with a covered gallery, one of the four existing in France. Located opposite the church of Saint-Saturnin, it retained its original use until the early 19th century before being transformed into the laundry room of the neighbouring hospital. It presents on the pillars of one of its galleries a Renaissance decoration and a sculpted dance of death. In addition to its architectural interest, since 1923 it has housed the city's rich lapidary collections, including houses destroyed in 1940.
