THE LOUIS FOUNTAIN XII
Fountain Louis XII located in Blois and classified as a historical monument, the most beautiful of seven fountains.
Listed as a historic monument, the Fontaine de l'Arsis des Comtes de Blois, also known as the Fontaine de Louis XII, was originally medieval, but was completely rebuilt (and even relocated) under Louis XII (whose name it bears), around 1511. It was erected by the master fountain-maker Pierre de Valence, as part of the city's waterworks. At the time, there were no fewer than seven fountains in Blois, all fed by the same reservoir, known as the "gouffre", which lies beneath the church of Saint-Vincent. The Fontaine Louis XII is the most beautiful of these seven fountains, earning it the nickname "Grandes Fontaines". Damaged during the French Revolution, it was restored in the late 19th century.
