THE OLD TOWN
Go there and contact
An old town with some old streets, half-timbered houses and with the heights of the Grand Remenier, in Blois.
For Victor Hugo, Blois is "an old amphitheatric town capriciously spread over the projections of an inclined plane". After wandering through the château's corridors, we leave the tourist office and head down to the pleasant and much-frequented Jardin Victor Hugo. Not very large, but well placed and relaxing, under the benevolent gaze of Auguste Thierry, to whom the town of Blois pays tribute with a bust. We continue along the pedestrian Rue Porte Chartraine, which joins Rue Gallois. It takes its name from the fact that it overlooked the city gate through which people entered from Chartres. You can wander through some of the old streets, but you'll have to take rue Beauvoir with its half-timbered houses or climb to the heights of Grand Remenier to get a different view of the Loire. From April to September, guided carriage rides are offered every afternoon by the tourist office, departing from the Place du Château.
