CHÂTEAU DE LA FERTÉ-IMBAULT
Feudal castle dating back more than a thousand years, the largest brick castle in Sologne, distinguished by its elegance and its moat.
The castle was built over 1000 years ago by Humbault le Tortu, Lord of Vierzon, who gave his name to the village. Its first structure was reinforced during the Middle Ages. Around 1400, the Black Prince destroyed the castle, burned the village and massacred the population. The building suffered during the Wars of Religion and the French Revolution. Sologne's largest brick castle retains its elegance, and its double terrace is a reminder of its military might.

The place is perfect: in this place remains of the remains of a Gallic fortification and Sauldre court nearby. This vast region, then called " saecalonia" (country rye) saw passing Jules César and his troops during the conquest of the countries carnute and biturige.
Soon two solid towers rose trendy, hidden by a arms room, and on the hill a wall flanked by two corner towers. The castle of the FERTE-IMBAULT was born. The years are passed, the Lords of Ferté-Imbault go crusade, and their banner can float on all the battlefields of overseas. Several will die in the battles. While the Hundred years War made fumes, Prince Noir, the oldest son king of Angleterre, leave behind it only desolation and ash and Jeanne Lorraine visit king de France, Charles VII, via Ferté-Imbault that does it become this castle?
Taken, despite its five lines defence, it is no more than la calcina walls. The village, whose no house remains, will not find any more its prosperity.
It is the family of Stamps, early 16th century, that the castle reappear its ruins. But it is Jacques of Etampes, Maréchal de Camp, Captain Bodyguards of Gaston of Orléans, brother of Louis XIII, who built in 1627, according to the principles of architecture of the time, preserving the parts used, a beautiful unity of which most subist today. Large communal rise each side of the main courtyard and accompany the main building and two houses that surround the inner courtyard. For pleasure a vast park is closed, a wall that still exists. For centuries, the castle will change hands, many times.
This castle, evidence of History, whose stones have a soul, is like those illustrated its name, the name Ferté-Imbault.
