CHATEAU DE LA MEZIERE
Castle with a chapel and still inhabited, built on a Gallo-Roman villa in a green setting in the 16th century.
This charming château, still inhabited today, was built in the 16th century on the site of a Gallo-Roman villa, from which it takes its name Mézière. Its small chapel, carved porch, slate-encrusted chimney-pieces (as in Chambord) and pretty Renaissance gallery give the château a royal charm that pleased Antoine de Bourbon, father of Henri IV, who organized the festivities for his marriage to Jeanne d'Albret. On this occasion, Ronsard composed a poem filled with delicacy.
