FRANÇOIS 1ER'S BEARD
Visit a remarkable building, a former hotel in Romorantin-Lanthenay.
The old Saint-Pol hotel or house known as the house of François I, at 16, rue du Milieu in Romorantin, is one of the rare brick and stone buildings in the region with a diamond-shaped decoration of green enamelled bricks. It is also the seat of a funny story: during the Epiphany of 1521, François I simulated the attack of the hotel where the king of the day elected by the bean was sitting. The game went wrong and the real king received a flaming firebrand thrown from a window. Legend has it that the king grew a beard to hide the scar caused by this mishap
