CASTLE OF THE COUNTS OF ANGOULEME
Castle built in the 15th century for Jean d'Angoulême, it remains the south-east tower and the prison tower to the north-east, housing the courthouse.
Built in the mid-15th century for Jean d'Angoulême, father of François I, all that remains of the château today is the southeast tower and the "prison tower" to the northeast. Enlarged in the 16th century, it has housed the courthouse since the Revolution. The sub-prefecture was also built here in the 19th century. Some of history's great names are linked to this château: Francis I spent part of his childhood here, and Leonardo da Vinci planned to enlarge it.
