COLLEGIAL
The collegiate church at the foot of the château is a Romanesque gem featuring magnificent frescoes by Saint-Aignan.
This Romanesque collegiate church, built in the 11th and 12th centuries, stands at the foot of the castle. Entrance is via the bell tower-porch. A tower surmounts the crossing of the nave and transept. It is said to have been used as a fortified castle in times of difficulty, and as a stable after the French Revolution, before being returned to religious use in 1800. The 11th-century crypt, the town's first church and well worth a visit in its own right, is home to some truly beautiful frescoes. The collegiate church regularly hosts classical music concerts (ask at the tourist office).
