WICKET ABBEY
Vestige of an abbey with a beautiful park and a chapel in Valloire, witness of the power of the counts of Blois during the Middle Ages.
It was Jean de Châtillon and his wife Alix who began construction of La Guiche Abbey in 1273 in gratitude for his safe return from the Crusades. It bears witness to the power of the Counts of Blois in the Middle Ages. Revolutionaries drove out the last Franciscans and dismantled the buildings. Today, part of the cloister still remains, as well as a room that must have been the cellar with its attic, and the chapel, which houses the recumbent remains of Counts Jean and Guy de Châtillon in the midst of a beautiful park.
