LA FÉLIBRÉE
La Félibrée is a great Occitan festival (Felibrejada in Occitan) organized every first weekend of July by Lo Bornat dau Perigord. It takes place every year in a different commune, with the support of the surrounding communes. It is an important event that is prepared many months in advance and mobilizes hundreds of people to welcome thousands of visitors. The event often lasts 3 days with a highlight on Sunday. It is the "Queen of the Félibrée" who opens the day, with a few words in Occitan. The festival celebrates the beauty of this language and culture, with its traditional highlights imagined by the "félibres": the handing over of the keys of the city, the mass in Occitan, the taulada (up to 700 guests for this typical Perigordian meal with its famous rind beans), the love court and its ode to the queen... But the younger generation is shaking up tradition a little and the traditional dances are now finding their place in the programme, which leaves a beautiful place for parades in costumes, old trades and traditional dances.
