LA ROCHE-BERNARD, VIEVILLE
La Roche-Bernard is a big rocky promontory overlooking the Marne Valley. The place overlooks the Lavaux valley, a privileged site for climbing and also hikers (route 49 of 12 km). Haute-Marne has this additional advantage of having three cliffs: the Côna (Bourmont), the cliff of Cohons and the Roche-Bernard. The latter is 20 m high and offers forty tracks of various difficulties. The beautiful view, with a picnic area at the top of the rock, makes it a pleasant day. A 12 km circuit to be done on foot or ATV has been developed (to be downloaded on the site of the tourist office of Chaumont). It used to be said that the Celtic druids practiced sacred rituals there. We also come to admire the plants; it is classified as a natural zone with, around pubescent oak and white white trees, a shrub flora composed among other cherry trees of Saint Lucia, Nerprune purgative, Hellebore fétide and Melitte with a leaf of mesh…
