BAUME-LES-DAMES ABBEY
A superb Benedictine abbey, with rich and refined ornaments, the work of the architect Nicolas Nicole in Baume-les-Dames.
Nicolas Nicole was an architect who designed many buildings in Franche-Comté in the 18th century, including the Abbaye de Baume-les-Dames. Also known as Abbaye Saint-Odile, it was founded in the 8th century as a Benedictine abbey of the Saint-Benoît order. You can easily visit the abbey and see the refinement and richness of its ornaments, which were looted during the French Revolution. Nevertheless, some beautiful remains remain. Thanks in no small part to renovation work.
