THE COASTAL FOOTPATH
A trail to discover the secrets of the architecture of a marsh created first for salt and then for fish farming
There are 4 coastal trails in the Arcachon basin, of which Audenge is the longest (14 km). This trail goes around the Certes estate via a dike that was used to create the salt marshes in the 18th century. You'll discover the secrets of the architecture of a marsh created first for salt and then for fish farming. Watch for birds such as cormorants, gulls and black kites. The paths are wide and the walk is easy. Allow 3 hours for the walk, and take along something to quench your thirst, as shade is in short supply.
