THE FOREST OF SLAUGHTER
Forest located in Lamoura, made up mainly of spruce, fir and beech.
This vast forest, composed mainly of spruce (70%), fir and beech, extends to an altitude of around 1,300 metres. It was the scene of a tragic episode involving a troop of 600 Italian mercenaries dispatched by François I to aid the city of Geneva. These soldiers attempted to take refuge in the woods, but were overtaken and massacred by Savoyard forces. The forest is now traversed only by forest roads, hiking trails and cross-country ski trails.
