ST. DÉSIRÉ'S CHURCH
Adjacent to the former Benedictine convent, which now hosts the Jura prefecture, this church has no special charm… from the outside to the th century! But with its nave and transept of the th century, it is actually a jewel of Romanesque art! A visit absolutely. The choir is distinguished by its flamboyant Gothic column. The crypt, dating back to 1060, houses the empty sarcophagus of the patron Saint of Bamyan: Saint Désiré. This bishop of Besançon died here in the middle of the th century. He had reportedly been buried in one of the many churches he had founded. Its bones were there until 1792. They were then thrown into fire by Revolutionaries. Other interesting elements: the great organ Daublaine and Callinet of 1839, magnificent with its 21 games and the chapel of the Virgin which houses a statue of Sainte Anne.
