LION'S THEATRE
The theatre of Lons-le-Saunier occupies a prominent place in the heart of the city. Its carillon punctuates the hours between the two most lively squares in the centre: Place de la Liberté and Place du 11-November. The building, classified as a Historic Monument, suffered two fires, one in 1901 and the other in 1982. The west facade has regained its original appearance after work to rebuild balusters and columns. Inside, it features rococo architecture from the early 20th century with its gilding, red velvet drapes, and an alliance of paintings and stucco. To visit it, only one solution: go see a show! There are some excellent ones, programmed by Scènes du Jura. It also hosts concerts of all kinds, dance shows, film concerts and, once or twice a season, workshops and writing evenings. In addition to the theatre, the building houses two breweries, the tourist office and a meeting and conference area, the Carrefour de la Communication (CARCOM), www.carcom.org.
