In Lons-le-Saunier, on August 27, 1882, Place de la Chevalerie, is inaugurated the statue of Rouget de Lisle. A work of Auguste Bartholdi, the famous sculptor who will realize four years later the statue of Liberty in New York. Immortalized in bronze, Captain Rouget de Lisle sings in full lungs his Marseillaise, straight arm lifted, bust tense, the flag of France tight in his left hand.
