BLAYAIS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT
Public Information Center organizing a conditional visit of the Blayais nuclear power plant facilities
Centre d'Information du Public is a privileged place of exchanges. Come and learn about the energy challenges of tomorrow, as closely as possible to an electricity production centre. You will discover conferences and projections on different themes there, thematic exhibitions, interactive and fun modules. Built between 1974 and 1983 in the marshes of Blayais, along the right bank of the Gironde estuary, C.N.P.E (Centre Nucléaire de Production d'Electricité) needed important embankment work on a site of almost 5 million m3. 2 million m3 of silt was extracted. The surrounding walls of the reactors are laid on a reinforced concrete slab of 5 m thick. The plant includes four parts of 900 MW for each sector of Pressurized Water Reactors. Each of the four units of production is controlled by a command and control room that allows for constant monitoring. Commissioned in 1981, the plant produces 120 % of the consumption of the Aquitaine region, allowing for exportation to Europe. Finally, nearly 1,300 agents exploit the site, with the help of 600 industry partners. The visit to the site is possible under conditions.
