This tower is private property. You can't visit it but admire it from outside! It was built in the th century on the remains of the fortifications and house of Guillaume de Saint-Amour (1202-1272), a great theologian of the th century. Born here, he is Canon in Mâcon and then rector of the University of Paris. A fervent opponent of the new religious orders founded at the time, the beggars (Franciscan, Dominican), he was condemned by the Pope and expelled from the Kingdom of France in 1257. He returns to his native lands where he dies. He gave part of his immense fortune to the poor of the city.
