JEUJURA
Located in the heart of the Jura forest, Maison Jeujura has specialised since the early 20th century in the manufacture of wooden games and toys, and also particularly in the manufacture of forest houses and wooden chalets. It was part of the commercial operation "Je joue français", and received the distinction Entreprise du patrimoine vivant.
History. The story begins in 1911, when Henri Liégeon created his first manufacturing workshop in Champagnole, in the Jura. At that time, production was based on turning and woodworking products: wooden coat racks, bamboo mirrors, tool handles, deckchairs and folding seats....
In 1931, Henri Liégeon entrusted the management of the company to his son, Bernard Liégeon. This one will quickly move towards the manufacture of wooden games and toys. This is how he created the "4 games box", the little horses, the goose game, the hopscotch, the ladies and the "abacus apron".
In 1941, he also designed a brand new construction game concept: the famous "forest house" and "Swiss chalet", made up of toothed beechwood parts, were created. Then, a few years later, he launched "Juraville" in which tenons and mortises replaced the notching system.
The Jeujura brand was registered in 1948.
In 1971, Jean Liégeon succeeded his father at the head of the company. This period attests to the beginning of the presence of the Jeujura brand in all distribution networks in France and abroad.
In 1980, the company moved to its own premises in Saint-Germain-en-Montagne and developed brand new pack concepts such as the cardboard barrel and the cardboard box. The first farms and the first Far West will also appear.
Catherine Varacca, the founder's great-granddaughter, took over the management of the company in 1990, and continues to promote this century-old company with her brother Frederic. During the 2000s, articulated characters will enrich the chalets and the brand will join the France Cartes Group, leader on the European playing card market.
The products. Jeujura produces its games from wood from local forests, as evidenced by its ecological chalet, created in 2010.
Employment. 35 permanent employees and about ten seasonal workers produce 400,000 games each year.
