ROMANESQUE CHURCH OF ST. MARY
Church in the middle of the fields, one of the rare buildings entirely vaulted of this time in Saint-Hymetière.
This church is in the middle of the fields. The explanation is simple: Saint-Hymetière was destroyed at the end of the 15th century, except for the church. An example of early Mediterranean Romanesque art, it dates back to the 11th century. It is one of the few fully vaulted buildings of its time. With its short nave and 3 bays, its chevet with 3 semicircular chapels and its transept with octagonal crossing tower, its silhouette is surprising. It has retained its purity and typical Lombardy stripes. Note its domed bell tower. From here, there's a hike to the Valouse valley (2h30 walk).
