ROMANESQUE CHURCH OF ST. MARY

This church is in the middle of the fields. The explanation is simple: Saint-Hymetière was destroyed at the end of the ^15th century, except for the church. An example of early Mediterranean Romanesque art, it dates back to the ^11th century. It is one of the few fully vaulted buildings of its time. With its short nave and 3 bays, its chevet with 3 semicircular chapels and its transept with octagonal crossing tower, its silhouette is surprising. It has retained its purity and typical Lombardy stripes. Note its domed bell tower. From here, there's a hike to the Valouse valley (2h30 walk).
