BENEDICTINE PRIORY
A superb Benedictine priory in La Réole, a sober, massive complex on the pilgrims' route to Santiago de Compostela.
This vast, sober and massive ensemble dates back mainly to the first half of the 18th century. Louis XV-style ornamentation softens its austere appearance, while the ironwork, created by Réolais craftsman Blaise Charlut in 1748, enriches the building. The south facade recalls that La Réole was one of the four fording points on the Garonne, on the pilgrims' route to Santiago de Compostela. Although the site now houses administrative offices, you can still stroll through the monastery's corridors during office hours.
