CASTLE OF THE QUAT'SOS
Castle built by Louis VIII of France in 1224 in a former priory garden, besieged several times during the Hundred Years War
Built by Louis VIII of France in 1224, the Château des Quat'Sos took the place of a rudimentary tower, erected 40 years earlier in the former garden of the priory. Fourteen times besieged during the Hundred Years' War, the castle was the first to come under fire from the mouths of gunmen. Tradition reports that the defenders negotiated their surrender in time for the harvest. No political reason could be as valuable as the wine of the year. Dismantled by order of Richelieu, it has however retained its double fortified enclosure to the south.
