LAMARQUE CASTLE
This former military building was transformed in the 15th century into a wine estate
Built in the 11th century to resist the Norman invasion, rebuilt in the 16th and 17th centuries and then reworked in the 19th century, the Lamarque fortress imposes itself on the visitor, with its thick, high walls, its beautiful entrance châtelet and its dungeon with a low, rib-vaulted room. A former military building, it was transformed into a wine-producing estate in the 15th century. In the same family since 1841, the property produces Château de Lamarque, a Cru Bourgeois in the Haut-Médoc appellation, a second wine and a rosé called Noblesse Oblige.
