Quality Portuguese restaurant offering codfish specialties and hearty dishes.
It seems that in Portugal there are as many cod recipes as there are days in the year... At Monte Alegre this is not the case because the card would be impossible to hold but the chef has selected six and the choice for the client is difficult. On the advice of the boss, we decided to focus on cod in lagareiro: cod grilled à la plancha is served with potatoes in their field robes, garlic and hot olive oil. The cod was very fresh and mellow, not to mention the sunny taste of olive oil combined with garlic. A pure pleasure. The other recipe in great demand is cod in Brás (or with béchamel sauce). It is a frayed with French fries - but they are not French fries -, topped with garlic, cream and scrambled egg. For dessert, no nata pasteis but bolacha cream: a homemade whipped cream with a biscuit and chocolate mousse. We forget the pasteis so much it's good. The wine list highlights Portuguese wines but French wines are not forgotten. On order the house prepares a suckling pig, a lean pork with seafood or rice with seafood. The decoration is reminiscent of Portuguese restaurants with a rustic touch. The dishes are served copiously, the welcome is charming, the service impeccable and little attention to wait: cod acras. It is a place very frequented by the Portuguese community of Bordeaux, one more proof - if one were needed - to confirm that it is an authentic and quality restaurant.
