FC GIRONDINS DE BORDEAUX
The history of the Girondins cannot be told in a few lines! Founded in 1881, this emblematic football club played its first professional match on 22 August 1937 in Toulouse and established itself in French football thanks to its victory in the French Cup in 1941, then in 1950, with the title of French Champion. The Bordeaux football club has seen many talented players pass through its ranks, including Jean Tigana, Bernard Lacombe, Zinedine Zidane, Christophe Dugarry, Bixente Lizarazu, Sylvain Wiltord, Johan Micoud, Marouane Chamakh and Yoann Gourcuff, before being relegated to the D2 category in 1991. Did you know? Alain Giresse (1970-1986) is the club's all-time top scorer with 158 goals. And let's not forget the renowned coaches, including Andre Gerard, Aime Jacquet, Rolland Courbis, Elie Baup, Laurent Blanc and Willy Sagnol. The Girondins de Bordeaux, also known as the Marine et Blanc, have no reason to be ashamed of their record of achievements, with (among others) six French Championship titles, nine runners-up titles, four French Cup victories and three League Cup wins. Les Marine et Blanc have established themselves as a historic Ligue 1 club on the world's biggest stages. The club created a women's section of the Girondins de Bordeaux with the entente sportive blanquefortaise in July 2015. The Matmut Atlantique stadium (42,150 seats) is the home of Girondins de Bordeaux. The FC Girondins de Bordeaux academy has been training youngsters for over 20 years.
