CHÂTEAU LA LOUVIÈRE
The La Louvière vineyard dates back to the 13th century. It passed through several hands: the parliamentary family, wine-growing monks, and then the Bordeaux merchant and mayor J.-B. Mareilhac, who had the present château built. After falling into oblivion in the early 19th century, the property was finally bought by André Lurton in 1965, who restored it to its former glory. He undertook extensive work in the vineyard (the château was listed as a historic monument in 1991) and revived the Graves appellation with the Pessac-Léognan appellation.
