ART MUSEUM
The National Gallery was created by Duke Elie Decazes (1780-1860). When he was appointed Minister of the Interior by Louis XVIII, he had major works sent to Libourne. With remarkable pieces accumulated over the years, the museum can be proud of its collection of works from the 14th to the 20th century, including famous names such as Auguste Rodin and Jan van der Straet, as well as local artists. The museum has two exhibition spaces: the 2nd floor of the town hall for its permanent collections and the Carmel Chapel for the temporary collections. The Libourne Museum of Fine Arts is an establishment recognized as a "Musée de France" by the Ministry of Culture and Communication. Visits are free of charge. They can be carried out freely thanks to the explanatory cartels that accompany each of the exhibits, or guided by a cultural mediator.
