SAN MARTIN CHURCH
A church with a cul-de-four apse, decorated with a double arch, a Romanesque choir, and vaulted side aisles
The Saint-Martin church is located in the heart of the Listrac-Médoc village. This building, originally of Romanesque style, modified and enlarged as time passed by, have been restored in the middle of the 19th century. The church, listed as a Historical Monument (in 1925 and in 2004), is composed of a semi dome apse, decorated with a double blind arcade and a Romanesque choir (12th century), a strongly remodeled nave with three vessels: the nave is vaulted with barrel (lath and plaster) and the side aisles are in cross vaults. The bell tower was probably made in the middle of the 16th century and consists of a massive tower on two levels, on a square plan, topped by a high terrace from which springs an octagonal spire decorated with hooks. Saint Martin was a great traveler who dedicated his life to religion, and in particular, establishes new parishes and many monasteries.
